1. Rise in Mergers and Acquisitions in the Telecom space – The fight for the top has never been nastier. Long
time companies like Cablevision, Earthlink, Time Warner Cable, and Level3 have been absorbed. There is internal competition between employees vying to not be made redundant. Supply is high, demand is high, there are few options and pricing continues to be aggressive and that’s great for the customer. Take advantage!

2. GPON and shared internet over fiber – There is some really great speed available on the market today. Google did a great job lighting a match under the foot of the carriers when Verizon started to slow its push on FiOS and sell off the assets. 3. The fall of copper and the PSTN – Copper is being decommissioned throughout the PSTN or Public Switched Telephone Network… Rapidly and without concern for how you feel about it. Getting a POTS line is difficult and expensive. Most of the time you won’t get Plain Ole Telephone Service, it will be bandwidth with an emulated POTS via some sort of conversion device that will hand you an RJ11. It’s simple mathematics, fiber takes up less space and has far more capacity.

4. Growth in cellular availability and speeds – Talk about a game changer! 10 years ago in 2007 getting on a website with your cell phone was not reliable and took forever. Today, you can run multiple devices off of a cell phone that you turn into a hotspot. Every user now has a back-up connection in their pocket and they’re always connected. This is keeping the wireline carriers on their toes.

5. IoT and new tech – there’s more you can do these days with bandwidth to gain an advantage or simply to create efficiencies at your business. Whether that’s door controls, overhead paging, temperature controls, lighting or even irrigation you can create efficiencies that lead to big savings using small steps.
